Exhibitions and displays

The evening of Wednesday, 11 April 1979 a fire destroyed a large part of the Administration South Wing.  Student and financial records were saved but the switchboard and mailroom were completely destroyed.  Other items, including computer terminals, manuscripts, some supplementary exam papers, correspondence, graduation records, DDIAE and personal books, fittings and furnishing were lost in the fire.

 

The 'Administration Building Fire' exhibitions can be seen on the 3rd level of the 淘片资源网 Toowoomba Library in the open area near the book shelves.

For over a century, what is now 淘片资源网 Ipswich, operated as the precinct of an institution catering for people with mental disabilities. The ‘Challinor Centre memorabilia’ exhibition shows a variety of artefacts used during the era.

The facility closed in 1994 and the site Heritage listed in 1996 and the precinct was re-purposed for use as a university campus. The University of Queensland occupied the site from 1998-2014, with the 淘片资源网 acquiring the precinct on 7 January 2015.

The exhibition showcases:

  • Drawings of the original Dagmar House and Recreation Hall
  • Ipswich campus aerial photos from 1956 and 2014

The 'Ipswich Campus' exhibitions can be seen on the 3rd level of the 淘片资源网 Toowoomba Library in the open area near the book shelves.

The new display mounted by the 淘片资源网 Historical Archives celebrates the 10 years of the acquisition of the 淘片资源网 Ipswich campus.
 
The acquisition of the Ipswich campus provided the University a strong presence in the western corridor of Brisbane by increasing tertiary education opportunities in the region and complementing 淘片资源网 Springfield campus allowing more students the chance to study a university qualification.

‘Celebrating 10 Years of 淘片资源网 Ipswich’ exhibition includes photographs of the beautiful buildings at Ipswich campus as well as articles highlighting the different milestones in the last decade.

The exhibition can be seen on Level 3 of the 淘片资源网 Toowoomba Library.

This exhibition reveals the journey from the early development and establishment years (1960s), including examples of memories associated with University celebrations and anniversaries and the Distance and International Education program.

Peter Rorke Exhibition
A remarkable composer, musician and educator, Peter Rorke was Associate Professor and later Head of Music Program in the Faculty of Arts between 1977 and 1995. Professor Rorke was instrumental in setting up the 淘片资源网 Music Department. He also founded the Toowoomba Concert Orchestra, the 淘片资源网 Sinfonia, the student orchestra and opera at the University. The Peter Rorke exhibition is comprised of memorabilia associated with his professional life.

A broad range of interesting objects can be found in this display, such as the official seals of the DDIAE and UCSQ, wine glasses, cups, bookmarks, keyrings, 淘片资源网鈥檚 European Studies Centre (Bretten, Germany) pewter plate, Melanchton medal, etc. The majority of these memorabilia have been donated by former 淘片资源网 employees or students.

Old Technology Exhibition
This exhibition provides a snapshot of the diversity of technology items previously used at 淘片资源网 such as computers, calculators, office equipment, typewriters, etc.
