Work and life experience

You don’t need an ATAR or recent school study to start university. This entry option is suited to people who’ve gained skills and experience through work, training or life experience - whether you’re applying for your first degree, a mature-age student or changing your career direction.

We’ll assess your work and life experience and calculate a selection rank you can use to apply for ÌÔƬ×ÊÔ´Íø undergraduate degrees - even if you’ve never studied at university before.

Each ÌÔƬ×ÊÔ´Íø degree has specific entry requirements you’ll still need to meet in addition to your selection rank, so be sure to check the requirements for your preferred degree before applying.

To calculate your selection rank based on work experience we assess:

  • a minimum of 6 months full-time paid employment (or part-time equivalent)
  • self-employment

We are unable to assess:

  • unpaid work experience
  • volunteer work
  • apprenticeship and traineeships ‘time-at-work’ component
  • applications from current year 12 students.

To help us assess your application you will be asked to provide:

  • a Curriculum Vitae (CV) or professional LinkedIn profile which includes:
    • organisation name
    • position title
    • start and end dates of employment for each position
    • type of employment (full-time, part-time or casual)
    • key duties, responsibilities and achievements.
    • names, position titles and contact details of referees (employers or supervisors) who will be able to verify the nature of your work for the period of 2 years.
  • a letter from your employer which includes:
    • written on official company letterhead
    • date
    • position held details, such as:
      • organisation name
      • position title
      • start and end dates of employment for each position
      • type of employment (full-time, part-time or casual)
      • key duties, responsibilities and achievements.

If you are self-employed, details included in your CV must be verified via a statement from either your accountant, solicitor or tax agent. This should be provided on their official letterhead.
